Senator Isakson is the first U.S. Senator to visit Equatorial Guinea in many years and the first to see the changes in Equatorial Guinea over the course of the last decade. Senator Isakson met with Equatorial Guinea government officials and discussed issues of common concern. He visited Equato-Guinean Liquid Natural Gas Plant, as natural gas from this plant is shipped to the Port of Savannah, in his home state of Georgia. On January 7, Senator Isakson was received by the U.S. Resident Ambassador Donald C. Johnson and Equatorial Guinea officials, led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Francophonie Pastor Micha Ondo Bile. After formal greetings at the airport in Malabo, the Senator headed to Bata, the second largest city in Equatorial Guinea, where he met with President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. After meeting with President Obiang and before returning to Malabo, Senator Isakson visited the Palacio de Congresos, Palacio de Conferencias de Ngolo and Clinica La Paz.
