Friday, April 4th 2008 marked the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. To commemorate this event, the Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the American Consulate General in Lagos gathered over 80 persons including students, scholars, media representatives, and members of various non-governmental organizations together to remember the legacy of Dr. King. On arrival those in attendance had an opportunity to see video footage of Dr. King’s life. Thereafter, US Consul General Donna Blair, Country Public Affairs Officer Atim George and Dr. Saheed Timehin, Professor at Lagos State University, offered brief perspectives on Dr. King’s legacy and his contributions to the US, Nigeria and worldwide community of nations.
