CPA Solidarity Week
"CPA Solidarity" Celebration
In January 2005, the Government of Sudan and the Sudan People s Liberation Movement signed the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) that ended decades of civil war. A little more than three years later, in early April 2008, the people of the Sudan and the United States supported the implementation of the agreement by celebrating "CPA Solidarity Week" in Juba. Each day of the event was focused on peace dividends that have served as cornerstones of the CPA. As outlined in the agreement, the week showed signs of progress in preparations for Sudan s 2008 census, 2009 elections, and the 2011 referendum on independence for Southern Sudan. (enlarged photo)
