USS San Jacinto Crew Beautify Limassol Beaches and School
On April 16-17, 45 sailors from the USS San Jacinto volunteered their vacation time to perform various community service activities organized by Embassy Nicosia in the Limassol area. On April 16, a group of sailors visited the Theotokos School for Children with Special Needs to clean and paint the facility. Embassy Nicosia Reaches Out to University Students to Encourage Education in the U.S.
On April 15, Vice-Consul Richard Hanrahan and Fulbright Commision Representative Gulsen Oztoprak reached out to students at Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) with a presentation on “Education and Travel in the United States.” Hanrahan gave the audience a step-by-step explanation of the visa application process. Oztoprak then followed with an explanation of educational opportunities offered by the Cyprus Fulbright Commision. [more]
A (GIS) Picture is Worth A Thousand Words: SAVE Continues GIS Training
The USAID-funded Supporting Activities that Value the Environment (SAVE) program organized the sixth in a series of interactive meetings of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Users Group on April 9, 2008. Interested professionals, engineers, technicians and experts from a variety of disciplines participated in the session where SAVE’s GIS experts James Price and Can Kara discussed how GIS data layers can be created using existing agricultural, environmental protection and antiquities information.
