The Consulate General is headed by a Consul General who is responsible for all operations in Marseille and the Consular Agency in Nice.
The Consul General is assisted by a deputy, who runs consular and administrative services on day-to-day basis. The Consulate General and the Consular Agency together employ five Americans and 21 local employees representing three United States Government agencies: the Department of State, the Foreign Commercial Service of the Department of Commerce, and the Navy s Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS). The U.S. Navy s Sixth Fleet liaison officer with the French Mediterranean Navy and his staff assistant live in nearby Toulon (where the French navy s Mediterranean fleet is anchored), and they work closely with the Consulate General.
January 11, 2008: The French Navy invited Rear Admiral Charles Leidig, Deputy Commander Sixth Fleet and Commander, Submarine Group Eight, Ambassador Craig R. Stapleton and Consul General Philip Breeden to spend a day on the French nuclear powered Attack Submarine (SSN) S605 AMETHYSTE for an at-sea demonstration of the ship s capabilities and to reinforce Franco-American military ties.

Citizen Dialogue Program December 18, 2007.
