AMBASSADOR JACOBSON OPENS MEETING HOUSE FOR WATER USERS’ ASSOCIATION
Ambassador Tracey Ann Jacobson and Shahritus District Deputy Chairwoman Gulandom Azimova formally opened the newly renovated meeting house for the Water Users’ Association “Sayod” in the District of Shahritus, Khatlon Province on April 11, 2008. The renovation was part of the USAID funded Water Users Associations Support Project to help Tajik farmers improve irrigation water management and increase crop production. press release

Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia Pamela Spratlen visited Dushanbe, Tajikistan on April 1-2, 2008. She met with officials from the Presidential Administration, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of Defense, as well as discussed civil society development and private business opportunities in Tajikistan with NGO leaders and entrepreneurs. At a press briefing, Spratlen talked about the prospects of U.S.-Tajik relations and answered other questions on U.S. policy in Central Asia. Transcript
