Anyone with a working open kinship adoption
I was just curious if anyone here is involved with kinship adoption where the bio parent that is your relative is in contact with the adoptive child.
We are adopting my nephew and fully expect to allow my brother (his bio father) to visit him later on. We are in the process and currently visiting H at his foster mom s house, hoping to slowly transition him into our home over the next 3 months. We also know due to legal reasons we are waiting until he is placed in our home and the legal finalization of the adoption is processed we are not having him visit my brother, but we do plan to let them visit eventually.
In the meantime, we wonder how to refer to my brother to H - we expect to become Mama & Daddy to him, and my brother is aware of this, and that legally he will be "uncle". However, we wonder if it s appropriate to refer to him as uncle when we plan to make his bio status known in age appropriate terms.
Is anyone going through this now I know a lot of folks here are doing kinship adoption but the bio parent is not fit to visit, so I m wondering if anyone is in the same boat as us where we do feel a very positive relationship can be developed. Although my brother wisely realized he wasn t able to parent, he loves his bio son deeply and we all hope to work this out together.
