GZ to IL in 25 hrs!
Last Nov 10 was one of the longest days of our lives. We woke up early in Guangzhou and caught a bus at 6am to the airport. We boarded our first of 3 flights from GZ to Tokyo. It was sad thinking that we were leaving the country of our daughters birth. I shed tears for her, her country, and her family left behind. We had a few hours to hang out in the Tokyo airport and found a great play area in the middle of the terminal. It was quite relaxing! Our 2nd flight was from Tokyo to Detroit. When we touched down in Detroit, Dori became a US Citizen. It became official when we passed through immigration and her Chinese passport was stamped. We wanted to take pics of that moment, but no photography was allowed. (I did take a photo a few minutes later while we waited for our luggage and I was swarmed by officials who threatened to take my camera if I didnt delete the photo immediately. Oops!) We changed terminals and waited on our last flight back to Illinois. 25.5 hrs door to door...and there was still 7 hours left in Nov 10! That made Nov 10, 2006 38 hours long!
Ive been on a few long overseas flights before and they are LONG, but it still amazes me that you can get on a plane and go from city to city, continent to continent, culture to culture. I am also comforted knowing that the opportunity to return is there. It has been 12 months since we were in China, but we hope to go back in 13 months. If we can afford the plane tickets we plan on visiting friends that live in Beijing for Christmas 2008. We would just explore the Beijing area and save other parts of China for when Dori is older.
Ill end this post and reminiscence of our China trip with what I consider the final photo of our incredible journey. Thank you to all that have followed along!
